In January of 2006, when Newt Marine was looking to repower its heavy-duty pushboat, the James Faris, they partnered with Mack Boring & Parts Co. Repowering from twin Caterpillar 398s, the Mitsubishi S12A2-MPTA was the perfect fit for Newt's project. Mainly used to push coal barges for long durations (12 hours), the James Faris achiveved signifcant fuel economy from its first push. On just its first few runs, the Mitsubishi S12A2 engines started to pay back for Newt; achieving a drop in fuel consumption greater than 41% over its previous engines. This will mean hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel savings over the life of each engine.
