Smart Engine Design
Reduces stress, improves efficiency, extends engine life.
Timing gear located at rear of engine. Increases timing precision. Reduces noise and vibration. Increases service life of connected components. Reduces engine length.
Mechanical unit fuel injectors are pressurized by the high mounted camshaft. Precisely timed and measured fuel injection provides higher reliability, lower fuel consumption, and cleaner emissions.

Four valves per cylinder head. Optimizes combustion over a wide range of engine speeds. Increased total valve area improves efficiency. Causes intake air to swirl, enhancing optimum air-fuel mixing. Reduces exhaust emissions.
Standing cylinder liner allows more effective cooling at critical locations.
Reinforced cylinder liner stabilizes piston shape for less emissions, longer life.

Individual cylinder heads speed service
Camshaft: One per cylinder row, high mounted in engine block, reduces weight, improves precision.
Pistons: Composite pistons with aluminum bodies and steel crowns.
Superior belt circuit design. Extra-wide poly-V belt drives water pump and alternator more reliably. Belt wear is reduced for longer service life. Central location of belt tensioner reduces wear, increases service life.
Turbo design and location. Located in the back of the engine, at the end of the exhaust manifold. Reduces unnecessary air flow. Contributes to engine efficiency and reduced emissions.

Charge air cooling: The second stage air charge cooler is fresh water cooled to help prevent the corrosion that is common with ordinary sea water cooled units.
Timing gear train: Mounted at the flywheel end of the crankshaft.
Oil sump: Made of cast aluminum.

System Control Features
Energy Management System (EMS). Data is collected and processed every microsecond from key engine units, including unit injectors, alternator, starter. The EMS regulates injection timing and fuel quantity injected to ensure optimum combustion. Mounted on the side of the engine, the EMS communicates with other systems over the engine’s CAN bus. It’s a robust system with fewer cables and connections for high reliability.

Engine Communication Program (ECOM). Provides quick and easy troubleshooting for shorter service times.
Service friendly features
One man service. Fewer tools required.
Separate cylinder heads. One head for each cylinder; just three bolts per rocker cover. Faster, lower cost service.
Centrifugal oil cleaner. Scania’s oil filtration remains unchallenged as the best in its class. A full-flow paper filter plus centrifugal oil cleaner makes Scania’s lubrication system far superior to a conventional 2-filter system. Spinning at 5000 rpm, the centrifugal oil cleaner removes smaller particles than are trapped by paper filters. The ability to scrutinize residue makes the centrifugal cleaner a window to the inside of the engine -- an early warning to excessive engine wear. Simple, lower cost maintenance. Extended engine life.
400 hour oil change interval. Compared to the usual 250 hour interval, you can run your boat 60% longer before taking it out of service for maintenance.
Oil cooler. Located directly after the oil pump, the oil cooler is a water cooled heat exchanger, providing efficient cooling while allowing the oil to heat up more quickly if the engine is cold.
Accessibility reduces downtime. Scania engines are service friendly, with easy access to components requiring service.
