captained many Picnic Boats, but the ride he experienced on the first one repowered with Yanmar
8LV370 engines raised the bar on the already superb performance he expects from Hinckley. "It's the
best performing picnic boat ever," said Smith following the initial sea trial following the repower.
"It's highly responsive, has a lot of reserve power, and cruises up to four knots faster than before
the repower. That extra power lets me do what I want with the boat. For instance, returning from the
sea trial through the Ft. Lauderdale inlet, in following seas, the extra power lets me more easily
match the wave speed for a smoother, safer entry. The boat has impressive seakeeping abilities,
especially in heavy seas. It tracks straighter and feels well balanced and stable. Plus, even at
cruising speed, the Yanmar 8LV engines run smooth as butter and they are dramatically quiet...you can
actually have a normal conversation."
On Hinckley’s decision to power the Picnic Boat with the Yanmar
