Instructor Spotlight: Larry Berlin
In 1969, Ed “Mack” McGovern Jr. recruited a young vocational trainer named Larry Berlin. With a profound understanding of diesel engines, a linebacker’s build and a heart of gold, Larry Berlin worked closely with Mack to form Engine City Technical Institute. He began as head trainer, and then became its Director.
Over the years, Larry has taught diesel theory and hands-on training to countless diesel operators and enthusiasts on virtually every make of diesel for both on-highway and off. Larry personally tailored much of the curriculum taught by Engine City Technical Institute, and helped the full-phase diesel technical school gain accreditation by the ACCSCT. Larry was the head of ECTI for approximately 35 years. In 2004, Mack Boring sold ECTI to the institute's management and Engine City Technical Institute now lives on in South Plainfield, NJ. Larry has been featured in numerous publications, and in May, 2004, he was rendered on the cover of Yanmar Scope Magazine. To date, Larry Berlin has been employed by Mack Boring for over 40 years and has personally trained approximately 22,000 individuals around the world.
Larry Berlin is an industry icon. His reputation is legendary among diesel engine enthusiasts far and wide. If you are fortunate enough to attend one of his courses, it will be an experience you will remember.
