2007/ 2008 TRAINING COURSE OUTLINE
Yanmar Silver and Gold SMALL Engine Dealers
Basic Small Engine: 2 Day Course
REQUIRED MINIMUM ONCE EVERY 3 YRS
Overview of GM, YM, JH3 and JH4 engine families and Yanmar Saildrive Systems. We will cover fuel system – injectors, flow, and timing, smoke trouble shooting, cooling system, hot water set-up, overheat issues and 50 hour service (what the process is). Our objective is to have you feel comfortable working on the engines and saildrives and know that when pricing service jobs you will be able to do so accurately and efficiently.
Advanced Small Engine: 2 Day Course
REQUIRED MINIMUM ONCE EVERY 3 YRS
This is a rebuild class for the Yanmar Saildrives along with YM, JH3 and JH4 engines. The class will instruct the technicians on the proper methods of disassembly, inspection and rebuilding of these engines. Instruction will be given on used and damaged parts evaluation. Information will be included on the proper testing and breaking in of the engine after the rebuilt has been completed. Only dealer technicians who have previously attended the Basic Small Engine class will be allowed to attend this class.
Yanmar Silver and Gold MEDIUM Engine Dealers
Basic Medium Engine: 2 Day Course
REQUIRED ONCE EVERY 2 YEARS
This class is designed for dealers with new technicians or employees who have not attended training sessions on Yanmar 4LH, 6LY, 6LP, 6LY3 (engine only, not electronics) or 6CX engines. The course will cover appropriate service advisories, engine model information, installation concerns, new engine installation testing, operation and maintenance of fuel injection, cooling, lubrication and air intake systems. The technician will learn through hands on experience proper valve adjustment, fuel injection timing, general systems maintenance and troubleshooting on the engines listed. If time allows, there will be introductory information covered on the 4BY, 6BY, 6SY and 8SY engines.
Yanmar Gold & Gold Plus MEDIUM Engine Dealers
Electronic Engine Series: 3 Day Course
REQUIRED ONCE EVERY 2 YEARS
Prerequisite: Basic Medium Engine Course
The instruction in this class is to introduce the new Yanmar Electronic Engines with Teleflex Control Systems. Instruction will encompass classroom and actual hands on instruction on the 6LY3 Electronic, 6 and 8 SY Electronic Unit Injector type engines and the 4 and 6 BY Electronic Common Rail systems. The technician will learn the proper installation, maintenance, operation and trouble shooting of these systems.
4 and 6 BY Advanced Medium Engine: 3 Day Course
REQUIRED FOR ALL MEDIUM DEALERS FOR 2007-08 SEASON
Prerequisite: Basic Medium Engine Course
This is an in depth, hands on class for the BY Series engine only. The class will encompass the actual disassembly, inspection and reassembly of the BY series engine. The technicians will also learn proper break in, maintenance and in water testing requirements and needed documentation and cover BY specific electronics training.

Engine Installation: 2 Day Course
This class will provide instruction necessary to safely install Yanmar Marine propulsion engines. Optimum boat and engine performance are achieved when the appropriate diesel marine engines, marine gear, propeller and accessories are selected for an application. To do this, we will review specific data and formulas as well as specific critical engine, marine gear and mounting specifications.
4LH & 6LY Advanced Medium Engine: 3 Day Course
Prerequisite: Basic Medium Engine Course
This is an engine rebuild class for the 4LH and 6LY series engines. The class will instruct the technicians on the proper methods of disassembly, inspection and rebuilding of these engines. Instruction will be given on used and damaged parts evaluation. Information will be included on the proper testing and breaking in of the engine after the rebuilt has been completed.
6LP Advanced Medium Engine: 3 Day Course
Prerequisite: Basic Medium Engine Course
This is an engine rebuild class for the 6LP series engines. The class will instruct the technicians on the proper methods of disassembly, inspection and rebuilding of these engines. Instruction will be given on used and damaged parts evaluation. Information will be included on the proper testing and breaking in of the engine after the rebuilt has been completed.
